The Jasmine is a beautiful boat and really well appointed. We arrived on board and were taken to our cabin which was lovely with a balcony to sit out on and watch life in the bay. The lunch was delicious and very well presented. The staff waiting at table were very efficient and pleasant. However, just before starting our lunch we were informed by the manager, who spoke very poor English, that the weather was going to be bad that night and we were not able to spend the night on board. This was a huge disappointment, especially as the weather was not bad that night at all in the end. We spent the afternoon cruising in beautiful sunshine and visited some caves which were OK and also we were taken on to a beach for swimming which was terrible - dirty and crowded. Would have been better just staying on board the boat.

We went on a three day, two night, cruise on the Jasmine, one of the four boats in the Classic Sailing Cruises fleet. The whole experience really exceeded our expectations. This is a slick operation, with facilities, food and services of the highest standard. The model for the company is that the boats pick up passengers from Ha Long City every morning. Passengers who have elected a two night cruise are off loaded from all three big boats to the Ha Long Sunset, a smaller "day boat", to continue through the bay, and follow a very relaxing itinerary with enough activity for those looking for it, but nothing too strenuous. We loved kayaking through a limestone cave into a lagoon. The day boat rejoins the larger boats in the late afternoon, in time for a shower and a drink before dinner. The meals centre around seafood, but the staff were anxious to know of passengers that this did not suit, and provided alternatives where required. Drinks were more expensive than in Hanoi restaurants, but not unreasonably high. Beer was $3.50, and we had a drinkable Australian wine each night for $30 to 35. Cabins were well appointed and the showers large with plenty of hot water. The boat we were on was immaculate, including the kitchen, to which we were invited for a demonstration of how the food was prepared. The staff went all out to make sure we were looked after, having a good time and safe, at every point. They were clearly very proud of the job they were doing and where they live and work. We'll do this again.

Our cruise on Halong Cruises ship, the Jasmine, was the highlight of our trip. The three day and two night trip in Halong Bay introduce us to the beautiful, unspoiled wonder of Mother Nature. The emerald green water is calm and the limestone formations are awesome. There is a serenity about the area that makes for a relaxed and peaceful journey. The Halong JAsmine has a wonderful staff to guide you and the service was super. Everythig was handled very efficiently for check-in to disembarkation. The ship is beautifully maintained and quite comfortable for a smaller vessel. The food was fresh and tasty with a good variety. Seafood abounds in the bay so there was a plentiful variety of fresh fish, shrimp and clams. The daily itineraries are planned to give you the best experience in the short time available. The trip to a traditional floating fishing village was so very interesting. The day we spent at Cat Ba National Park was the best. Swimming and kayaking here is a very memorable experience. There wasn't a sound except for bird song. As we floated on our backs and watched a hawk slowly circle the area, we felt like the only people in the world.

The Jasmine is a well appointed and comfortable ship. Ith 24 cabins it is the biggest Junk on Halong Bay, yet it still seems small and intimate. The crew were friendly and efficient. The food and wine were a highlight with the evening meals served in a cave with white table cloths and crystal glasses - very special. The balcony cabin was small but adequate, no room for cases to be left on the floor. The balcony had two lounge chairs. The bathroom was a good size with a big shower recess with stone tiling. Very clean and modern. Take the two night cruise. Otherwise you stay too close to the harbour with the smog and water borne polution. On the second day you get taken further out with clean water and air. You also get the fun activities.

Just completed a 2 day 1 night cruise on the Jasmine today. We booked direct as suggested below via cruise halong.com, saving against some sights of $100. Also we booked the coached transfer, but wer ecollected by private car, again a saving. The transfer takes approx 3.5 hours, but well worth it once your there. The staff are very attentive and the ship and food are excellent. the rooms( we had a deluxe) are compact, but have a reasonable sized ensuite. The first day we had an inclusive trip from the boat to a local floating fishing village, with a tour of it on a hand rowed sanpam, which was very peaceful and relaxing. The following day the was another tour to a cave, which we can't comment on because although we were waiting on the fore deck, no one came out of the longe to inform us the launch was leaving, there is no PA system, but when there are so few guests we felt that it was poor, in fact just minutes prior to it leaving someone did inform us breakfast was being served, which we thought strange as it was not due until after our return, but put it down to a schedule change. Apart from that the staff were very attentive, yes the drinks are pricey, as is the trip...... Is it worth doing..... totally!
